On 3 June 2025, the Fair Work Commission announced the Annual Wage Review 2024-25 decision. The expert panel has determined the National Minimum Wage and all modern award wages will be increased by 3.5%. As a result of this increase, National Minimum Wage will be increased to $948.00 per week, based on a 38-hour work week, or $24.95 per hour.

These changes will impact approximately 20 percent of Australian employees currently paid pursuant to minimum wage rates. Matters considered as part of the Fair Work Commission’s decision to increase minimum wages include living standards and the needs of the low paid, workforce participation, fair minimum wages for junior employees and employees with a disability and gender equality.

Employers must pay the increased pay amounts from the first full pay period commencing on or after 1 July 2025. Employers should consider their obligations and prepare for the changes by:

  1. Reviewing existing employment contracts;
  2. Reviewing current wage arrangements with employees; and
  3. Implementing wage increases where applicable pursuant to the Annual Wage Review 2024-25.
